Houses built to be lived in for the next hundred years.

A centre-hall colonial on its lot, shown half finished and half in frame: slate-blue clapboard, black shutters and a red door on the right, the timber studs and rafters standing open on the left.
  1. Two oaks kept, forty feet clear of the dig
  2. Footings 42 inches below grade
  3. Studs at 16 inches, headers doubled
  4. Weathertight by week 24
  5. Keys in week 36

Week 36 36

One of our houses, week by week.

  1. SiteWeeks 1 to 3

We walk the lot before we draw a line.

Soil, slope, drainage and the trees worth keeping, marked out with you on the ground. The plan goes down in string before any machine arrives.

  2. FoundationWeeks 4 to 9

Footings below the frost line, poured by our own crew.

Forty-two inches down, formed, inspected and poured. We backfill only after the town has signed off the walls.

  3. FramingWeeks 10 to 17

A frame you could walk through with us.

Kiln-dried spruce at sixteen-inch centres, every header doubled. You see the frame before a single wall is closed.

  4. RoofWeeks 18 to 24

Closed in before the weather turns.

Sheathing, underlayment and shingles, then the windows and the chimney. From here the inside stays dry.

  5. KeysWeeks 25 to 36

Handed over the week we promised.

Siding, trim, paint and planting, then a walk through every room with you. Then the keys, and a written warranty on all of it.

They found rot behind the kitchen wall on day three, showed us, priced it on the spot, and still handed us the keys the week they promised.
